What church sales here look like

Recent church sales on our metro Atlanta map, so you know what to expect (these have ended):

A church rummage sale is usually stocked with donations from many households, so expect a wider mix of clothing, housewares, books, toys and furniture than at one family's yard sale. Bazaars and craft fairs are different: vendors or church groups sell handmade items, gifts and baked goods.

Rules for church sales in metro Atlanta

Here's what we could confirm from official sources as of Oct. 27, 2026. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

How to host a church rummage sale

  1. Pick the date and check the rules first (see rules above): sales tax status, any city permit, and where signs can go. Avoid weekends with big community events nearby.
  2. Set a donation window with a cutoff date, and say clearly what you can't take (large appliances, mattresses or anything you can't move or resell).
  3. Sort and price before sale day. Group items by room or category and price everything ahead of time. Our garage sale pricing guide has typical prices for everyday items.
  4. Staff it in shifts. Set up, checkout, a cash box with small bills, someone on the floor and a cleanup crew. Two people at the money table at all times.
  5. Promote it three to four weeks out. Bulletin, announcements, members' social accounts and free local calendars. Our guide to promoting a church event walks through it step by step.
  6. Plan for leftovers. Line up a donation pickup or drop-off before sale day so nothing goes back into storage.

Quick answers

Where can I find church rummage sales in metro Atlanta this weekend?

This page lists the church rummage sales and bazaars on our map now, each with its own page. Our weekend sales page lists every garage, yard, estate and church sale we've confirmed for the weekend by area, and the free Weekend Roundup emails it every Friday morning.

Do churches in Georgia charge sales tax at a rummage sale?

Usually not, if the sale qualifies. Georgia's Department of Revenue says religious institutions don't have to collect sales tax on sales from a specific charitable fundraising activity that runs no more than 30 days in a calendar year, doesn't benefit any private person, and funds relief to the aged, church youth activities, religious instruction or worship, or church building construction or repair.

Can we put rummage sale signs along the road in Georgia?

No. Georgia law makes signs in the right of way of a public road unlawful unless authorized. Put signs on the church's own property, or on private property along the route with the owner's permission.

How much does it cost to list a church sale with Spread the Word?

$12 for a church, HOA or community sale. We write the listing, post it to free local sale-finder sites, calendars and community pages that fit, and email you a proof sheet with every live link. We can't promise turnout.
